Which is worse?

A friend of mine came over the other day and we got talking about something. And I was just wondering what everyone esle thought on this subject:

Which one is worse:

1. Someone who talks badly about you to others.

2. Someone who chimes in on such talk.

3. Or someone who doesn’t chime in, but doesn’t do anything about it either?

For me it all depends on who #1, 2 and 3 are and how close I am with them. It hurts to know someone that you’re close to either starts talking badly about you, doesn’t stick up for you when they hear crap like that being said or chimes in on it.

1 and 2 are equally bad to me. (It’s tough to choose just one.)
